New Malden Colourful Character Project

The clients for this project purchased a family home with loads of original character.  The initial designs saw many of these features being removed and replaced with modern materials and a large increase in the overall footprint of the home.  After multiple design meetings, the brief was altered to protect and enhance these features, bring an open plan layout to the kitchen/dining room and allow the family to personalise their own spaces within the home.  The original footprint was kept the same, opting to enhance what was there rather than increase the size for the sake of it.  The result is a wonderful mixture of colour and texture with a bright kitchen as the focal point of the house.  Working closely with the client, we were able to salvage many aspects of the original home such as the amazing timber panelling and wooden staircase in the front entrance, the original doors and ironmongery.  We carried out a sympathetic restoration of the front bay windows and converted some of the attic space into a work area and secret reading den for the children.  We’re extremely proud of this project and found it a pleasure working with the clients to design a family home they can enjoy for decades to come.
