Expecting Family Home
Our clients for this project came to us after learning that they were having a baby and needed to turn an early 20th-century property into a family home. This project, located near the wonderful High Street of Sheen, was full of potential but just needed a bit more space for a larger kitchen and family play area. The back yard also hadn’t been touched in what looked like years, so it would require a full transformation to complement the internal renovation we’d also be carrying out.
Luckily, our clients had strong design ideas, and so we just had to work with them to ensure they could achieve everything they wanted while sticking to a budget. This was strongly tested when we broke through into a hidden vault located below the new kitchen extension footprint. Working closely with the architect and engineer, we were able to stabilise the area with minimal disruption and carry on with the work.
The clients took extra care in choosing bespoke curved radiators, a traditional kitchen complete with beautiful stone worktops to complete the look. Oak herringbone flooring throughout from Natural Wood Floors provides a hard-wearing surface that will grow with the family as it is tested by toys and prams. Careful planning in the kitchen allowed us to create a large walk-in coat and shoe cupboard, and concealed behind a reeded glass door is a full laundry room with a spare sink and extra cupboard space. Under the stairs, we managed to fit in a good-sized bathroom with enough room for a tall individual to use without banging their head. Upstairs, warm neutral colours bring a sense of calm to the master bedroom, spare room and nursery. A bespoke headboard and built-in cupboards complete the look in the master bedroom. Downstairs, the large glass-fronted rear extension leads out to a large patio and tiered garden space ready for entertaining and lots of room for play.
It was a pleasure working with these clients, and we invite you to check out the images from start to finish.
